Belize In November: Rain Fades, Culture Shines
Thinking of visiting Belize in November? It’s a transitional month as the rains start to fade, crowds remain light, and the weather keeps you guessing.
November marks the tail end of hurricane season, though the occasional late storm can still sneak in. Even so, it’s a beautiful time to visit thanks to one of the country’s most vibrant celebrations: Garifuna Settlement Day.
Having lived in Belize, I can give you a realistic look at what November is truly like. You can rest assured I won’t just share the sunny side — you’ll get the truth and a few local insights too.
Garifuna Settlement Day, celebrated on November 19th, honors the Garifuna people’s arrival by canoe to Belize’s shores. The music, food, and cultural energy make this month one of the most meaningful times to visit.
Here’s exactly how to make the most of Belize in November.

Belize Weather In November
In a nutshell, Belize weather in November is a hit or miss. Being the end of the hurricane/rainy season, you can expect the rains to die down, but the possibility of a last-minute hurricane can't be ruled out.
The temperatures also drop a bit with a cold front normally passing through until January. For locals, this is chilly weather, but that might be warm weather for travelers from North America.
One of the best times to visit us. Tourist season just beginning. Temperatures dropping. If it rains, it’s usually just short showers.
What The Locals Say
Weather apps just don't work in Belize. There is, however, a National Meteorological Service that is the closest thing to a weather forecast. But, even locals find this to be inaccurate.

What November Is Actually Like
Garifuna Day
November 19th is officially Garifuna Settlement Day which is filled with festivities especially in the Southern towns like Hopkins.
Fewer Crowds
November is the end of hurricane season so there are smaller crowds. You may even get to experience a Mayan Ruin or Cave to yourself.
Iffy Weather
Because we can't predict the weather, it's typically a hit or miss with the rain. Technically it's the last official rainy month.
Festivals In November
The biggest event in November is definitely Garifuna Settlement Day. A new event known as El Cayo Festival has just started in 2025 as well. Read more about other local festivals.
El Cayo Festival
Recently inaugurated on November 1st, 2025, El Cayo Festival is a mix of food, music and products available in Western Belize. Held at the newly constructed Cayo Boardwalk and riverside by the San Ignacio market, you'll find something fun for families, couples and solo travelers.
Garifuna Settlement Day
November 10th is Garifuna Settlement Day celebrating Yurumein (The Arrival of the Garinagu to Belize). This happened more than two centuries ago. Two popular cities celebrating Garifuna Settlement Day are Hopkins and Dangriga which has the largest concentration in Belize. Seine Beight Village and Punta Gorda are also on this list.
Garifuna Settlement Day in these villages is celebrated with a re-enactment of the arrival of the Garifuna people (Yurumein) who brought their culture, people and cuisine to Belizean shores from islands like St. Vincent. Alongside the popular Yurumein event, is the Battle of the drums series of events which is a funded non-profit dedicated to the preservation of Garifuna Culture in Belize.

Placencia Restaurant Week
Until recently, I've also discovered a restaurant festival organized by an expat living in Placencia. While I haven't experienced it, you can take a look if you plan on visiting the area.
Things To Do In November
While end of November is the end of hurricane/rainy season, there is still a probability of residual rain showers. A good idea is to plan a day extra inland just in case it rains.
Attractions near a river like Cockscomb Basin, ATM Cave, Mountain Pine Ridge and Xunantunich are subject to flooding, so that's very important to keep in mind.
It's very hard to predict if the ATM Cave or any cave or river for that matter will get flooded. Normally, it takes about a week of slow rain or 2-3 days of heavy rain to cause flooding and the closure of these attractions as a result.
Belize Audubon Society manages some of the most popular national parks. Their Facebook page is a reliable source of information.
With that said, water activities are open for business. If it rains a bit, it won't affect your snorkeling at popular spots like Hol Chan Marine Reserve. Rivers might be affected by the rain though — the water won't be as clear as they would normally be otherwise.
Recommended Activities
Mosquitoes & Sand Flies
With the rainy season coming to an end, it means mosquitoes become less of a problem throughout the country.
But, if you plan to stay in the jungle, bring mosquito repellent. Resorts and boutique lodges usually provide it, but it’s good to have your own just in case.
Worth noting is that most locations that have a mosquito problem have locally made repellents for sale. For example, at Caye Caulker, you can find "It Works" bug spray available at Red Flower Gallery, Ice & Beans Cafe and Mercado which is in the North Side.
Sargassum In November
Historically, sargassum has been less of a problem in November, but like the weather, it can also be unpredictable.
If you plan on staying at a popular or luxurious beachside resorts, you shouldn't have any problems since these properties have staff that clean it daily. The smell is still a problem you can't avoid if there is a surge of sargassum on the islands.
Luckily, most people don't swim off the shore on the side of the Caribbean Sea for the most part. Actually, most of the water activities actually happen close to the barrier reef where travelers go to snorkel and dive.
Final Thoughts
If you’re craving culture, connection, and a slower pace, November in Belize delivers. It’s that sweet spot between the rains and the rush — when locals celebrate their heritage and travelers get a glimpse of the country at its realest. Come with an open heart, and you’ll leave with more than just great photos.
